Welcome to Aderondak Maine Coons!
My name is Mary M. Braunlich and we live at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. These mountains are a beautiful, pristine area preserved by the State (over 6 million acres). Why the misspelling "Aderondak?" I originally applied for the cattery name "Adirondack," but that had been used and could not be reissued. However, if I changed three letters, I could use something similar so we agreed to the creative spelling. I wanted to keep the mountain theme as they are very dear to me, and are as big and beautiful as my beloved Maine Coons.
My goal is to breed healthy cats with a good temperament, type and size. As health is clearly most important to our breeding program, we screen our cats for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with DNA testing and regular echocardiograms.
We only produce a few litters each year. We consider our kittens part of our family so we screen for responsible, loving homes for our "coonlets". Once a kitten is chosen, he or she is neutered/spayed prior to leaving as well as having all of their required immunizations. Our feline friends are not allowed to run free outdoors and it is forbidden to declaw our cats.
These gentle giants are lively and affectionate. Highly intelligent, they sometimes act like dogs fetching and waiting at the door for their people's arrival. They are large-boned and come in many colors and coat patterns with the most common being brown tabby. They have tall, large ears, almond-shaped eyes and tufts of fur between their toes and on their ear tips. Their long, bushy tail is the length of their body which is rectangular in shape. The voice of a Maine Coon is unique ranging from a small "mew" to a high-pitched trill or chirping sound.
